CASTLETOWN GOLF CLUB REPORT 31ST AUGUST 2019
Meteorological Autumn began on Sunday 1st September but for those like me who turned up early on Saturday, there were very few of us, it appeared to start on Saturday with strong winds and rain. This reduced the entry level to only 68 competitors from a much greater field originally signed up for the day. Those watching the forecast had sensibly altered their Tee Times to later in the day where they could.
The rain stopped quite early and the wind did recede during the day which gave those playing later scoring opportunities. One early starter, Paul Eckersley (6), although not featuring in the prizes did return a very good score of 35 points, coming 8th overall.
The winner with a score of 41 points was John Newson (7) three clear points from second Guy Murray (12) on 38 points beating third place Dan Williams (7) also 38 points on count back. Murray was certainly helped in winning on the back nine having a three on 11th and two on 13th.
In fourth with 37 points was Mark Curphey (3) and fifth Dennis Moore (9) on 36 points beating Dave Quayle (3) on back nine.
Standard scratch reflected the conditions at 75 for the White Tees and the fact there were only four 2’s on the day.
Last Wednesday saw the Midweek Mixed Stableford with thirteen players, first again, after winning last weeks Midweek Flowerpower Competition, was Andy Saunders (14) on 42 points, getting a handicap reduction of 2 strokes, second Dave Quayle (3) with 36 points who lost out on the prizes on Saturday, third Michael Kinmond (17) on 34 points. The only Lady in the competition was Claire Walker (32) scoring 21 points.
This coming Saturday is this year’s penultimate SMP Partners monthly medal and at time of writing there are 84 entries.
